Morris
Dees to Speak at WSU
Morris
Dees, co-founder of the Southern Poverty Law Center, will deliver
the keynote address January 22 as part of Washington State University's
15th annual celebration of the life and legacy of the Reverend Martin
Luther King, Jr.
Dees
will discuss "Hope and Tolerance for the New Millennium"
during a program in WSU's Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum set to
begin at 7 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
The
presentation will be videostreamed for viewing by WSU faculty and
staff outside of Pullman. Watch for details in "WSU Announcements"
and on the WSU website.
Feedback
from Survey of Technology Use
It
looks like the responses to our recent survey of which technology
CAHE faculty and staff are using to watch our "CAHE UPDATES"
and "Extension Engaged" programs have just about trickled
to a stop.
Preliminary
analysis of the responses shows some interesting facts. First of
all, we received a total of 199 responses. Of those, 121 were from
off-campus and 78 were from on-campus.
Of
those responding, 80 said they watched most often via satellite
and 79 cited videostream as the viewing method they preferred. Only
eight responded that they viewed via WHETS, which means we may be
eliminating this as a viewing option, since it's hard to justify
tying up several WHETS classrooms across the state for only eight
people to use.
We'll
be doing some further analysis to see which methods were preferred
most by on-campus faculty versus off-campus faculty.
Thanks
to all of you who responded and if you still have not yet sent in
your feedback, please do so and send it directly to Scott Fedale
at: fedale@wsu.edu
JANUARY 8 "Conversation with County Chairs"
Just
a final reminder about next Tuesday's broadcast, from 2-4 pm. It's
designed as an interactive discussion with county chairs around
a number of issues, such as advocacy for local Cooperative Extension
programs, county advisory structures and strategic implementation
plans. Louise Turner and Jim Lindstrom will also be providing presentations
on their approach to building a local advocacy group.
A
full packet of materials and agenda for discussion have been sent
to county chairs. And once again, this program will not be distributed
via satellite or videostream.

Another
Reminder About WEMIS and AICS
One
last reminder that WEMIS reports should have been submitted electronically
at http://ext.wsu.edu/wemis by the end of last month. Annual reports
must be in the AICS system by January 18th. All faculty and program
staff are expected to submit these reports.

I
will be in the office all of next week except for the evening of
January 9th when I will be joining the WS4-HA at Dumas Bay Centre
