Life Skills Evaluation System

USING THE SYSTEM

Welcome to the Life Skills Evaluation System. This system has been created to assist you in creating and using evaluation forms for Extension program participants. This evaluation system is based on the use of the Logic model, a program planning process designed to assist in evaluating outcomes of programs.

This evaluation system helps Extension educators create tools (evaluation forms and reports) to measure and document growth in specific life skills as a result of individuals' participation in a program. The information gathered through the evaluation process will 1) tell you if the program was effective in meeting its life skill objective and 2) provide concrete evidence to stakeholders concerning program effects.

This is not a subject-matter assessment tool. It is not designed to measure growth in content (i.e., knowledge of nutritional information or computer technology). However, a section on content can be added by the evaluator.

The goal of the system is to gather county and statewide data focused on life skills outcomes. The system addresses two components, or sets of skills, delineated by age:
  • Life Skills, Junior for youth grades three through five.
  • Life Skills, Senior for youth grade six and above and adults.

For each component, the evaluation form created through this system will:
  • Assess only the selected life skills.
  • Measure outcomes of programs with six or more contact hours with the same audience.
  • Accept data for the life skills indicators presented on this system.

For a successful evaluation, be sure to:
  • Use the permission statement at the top of the evaluation form as written.
  • Administer the evaluation face-to-face at the end of your program for Life Skills, Sr.
  • Administer the evaluation face-to-face at the beginning
    and
at the end of your program for Life Skills, Junior.
  • Assess program participants only, not observers of participants, such as parents of youth who participated.
